Hi,
I might sound like a novice but have a question on applying for visas while already outside your country of citizenship.
I am planning to go backpacking in a few months. Instead of planning out exactly which countries and when I’ll be arriving there, I would like to go country by country- deciding where to go to next on the spot and after I’ve decided to move on from that country.
I would like to know is it possible as an Australian citizen to apply for a visa to another country while already being overseas? eg. to apply for a visa to Indonesia while already living in Singapore? How would I go about doing that- would I have to go to the Indonesian consulate in Singapore and apply there?
Thanks for your help!

Dear friends.. need some advice here.. i’ve been told by most language schools in Japan that as a Malaysian I can apply for for a temporary tourist visa for up to 3 months to study in Japan.
Yet when i asked an immigration officer at a Japan Embassy, I got a really shocking response to the lines of ” Theres no way a Malaysian can get a visa for as long as 3 months.” and “Why bother to study Japanese in Japan? Just do it in Singapore!”
I was entirely baffled by this response. Is this right? Can anyone tell me if this is a fair answer? If I have proof of Acceptance by a school and a return ticket, does the Embassy have grounds to reject me based on my nationality?
Has anyone also received this type of treatment?
Any responses kindly appreciated..
According to the Embassy website:
The visa-exemption arrangements between Japan and Malaysia are still effective, and Malaysian nationals who meet relevant conditions can enter into Japan without a visa for a period of stay not exceeding three (3) consecutive months.
This makes the response that I got from the immigration officer (who said i could not hope to stay 3 mths) somewhat ridiculous, no?
I am going to Perth next week to try my luck in looking for a permanent job. But i know i dont have the appropriate working visa. Just tourist visa and really hope that some companies is willing to sponsor me a working visa.
May I know how is the employment market in Perth right now? I read that it is good but for a Singaporean with a fresh BBM(Finance) degree is it the same? Are there any companies that are well known for providing equal opportunities for foreigners?
I understand there are many types of working visas that allow foreigners to work legally in Australia without any restrictions. One is Skilled Visa. What are the others?
The Immigration website is giving me a migraine and I’m more than a little baffled about the Skilled Occupations List (SOL). =(
-I’m 22
-I will still be in Brisbane when I lodge for a visa
-Currently under a higher education student visa (ends in Sept ‘09)
-Fresh graduate from the University of Queensland (2 years ‘Bachelor of Communication’ course)
-I’m from Singapore
-About to take the required IELTS test in July (standard of English shouldn’t be a concerning factor though. I estimate that I’ll attain at least a 6.0 in all the categories)
-Not sure if I qualify for the SOL since Communications is such a big field and I can choose many occupations, however, I’ve not had the relevant adequate years for work experience in any field. I plan to find work in the Publishing industry (editing, layouts, etc)
Thanks very much! Any help will be much appreciated. =^)
p.s. I’m aiming for permanent residence, by the way.
HI!, IM FROM SINGAPORE. GOING AUSTRALIA TO STUDY FOR TWO YEARS. AM I ALLOWED TO BUY A CAR ON MY STAY THERE.THANK YOU.
The name on my passport reads Jorden Almeida which is same as my school leaving certificate and driving license. But the spelling on my PAN card, bank account, office etc. is Jordan Almeida.
